Welcome to YangDongHo Traditional House, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Dalasil Village, Hwasun, Jeollanam-do. This traditional hanok accommodation, also known as National Cultural Property No. 152, offers a unique and authentic experience for those seeking to immerse themselves in Korean culture.
One of the fascinating aspects of Dalasil Village is that it is inhabited by those who bear the surname of Jeju Yang. This adds a distinctive flavor to the community, making it even more intriguing for visitors. As you explore the village, you’ll find yourself surrounded by traditional houses and lush fields, creating a tranquil and picturesque environment.
YangDongHo Traditional House, or formerly known as Yangchamsadaek, is a prime example of a noble’s house in the southern region. The main building, shaped like a ㄷ, and the detached building, forming a ㅡ, come together to create the iconic ㅁ shape. The main building is believed to have been constructed in the 18th century, while the detached building was added in the late 19th century.
In 2013, the current owner took over this antique house and transformed it into a hanok stay. His daughter, Jo A-ae, a curator and culture planner, added contemporary touches, turning it into a cultural complex known as Hanok 152. The wide lawn surrounding the house serves as a versatile space, hosting music performances, traditional weddings, outdoor weddings, and one-day classes for hanbok experience and Korean food experience.
As you make your way inside, you’ll discover four charming rooms to choose from. In the main building, Anchae, there are options for a big room and a small room. In the detached building, Sarangchae, you can find the Daecheong room and a cozy bed room. Each room is adorned with traditional cabinets and folding screens, showcasing the timeless beauty of this antique house.
The owner has also renovated the main floor of the main building to offer a modern and luxurious space. With a comfortable sofa and a rug, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and relax. On the other hand, the main floor in the detached building exudes a cozy atmosphere with a floor table and traditional Korean cushions.
While toiletries are not provided in the bathrooms, they are available upon request at the information desk. Additionally, YangDongHo Traditional House offers space rental for various events such as traditional weddings, small weddings, first birthday celebrations, 70th birthday celebrations, small workshops, and one-day classes. If you’re interested in traditional hanbok experience, it is available for a nominal fee per person. For the Korean food experience, reservations can be made through our Instagram page.
Exploring further, you’ll discover other attractions in the village, including Hanjae House (National Cultural Property No. 154) and the World Heritage Hwasun Dolmen Site. If you’re up for a short drive, Unjusa Temple, famous for the Cheonbulcheontap Pagoda, is just 15 minutes away.
