Welcome to Wolindang, a charming hanok stay nestled in the heart of “Mojeong Happy Village” in Yeongam-gun, Korea. Our name, Wolindang, translates to “The place where the moonlight meets the chimney smoke over the forest,” reflecting the harmonious connection between our traditional hanok structures and the natural surroundings. Whether you’re seeking a tranquil getaway or an adventurous family vacation, Wolindang offers comfortable accommodations and a variety of nature-oriented activities to make your stay truly unforgettable.
Perched on a hill overlooking the picturesque plain, Wolindang treats you to breathtaking views of Wolchulsan Mountain to the east, Eunjeoksan Mountain to the west, and the lush fields of the northern village. What sets our village apart is its reputation for the enchanting moonlight that cascades down from the peak of Wolchulsan Mountain, creating an ethereal spectacle. In fact, Wolindang is renowned as one of the best places in the country to witness the full moon in all its splendor throughout the four seasons.
Our guestrooms are thoughtfully named after the natural features of the village, offering a unique experience tailored to your preferences. From the “Mountain Sunset” room, where you can relish in the beauty of a vibrant sunset, to the “Crescent Moon” room, providing a serene ambiance under the gentle glow of moonlight, and the “Plain” room, offering panoramic views of the surrounding plains, each room promises a delightful immersion into nature. Adding to the allure, every room showcases Oriental paintings by Baek Seungdon and Kim Seungnam, earning Wolindang the moniker of “The Wolin Museum” among the locals.
As you explore the village, you’ll encounter a myriad of enchanting murals depicting the 12 different landscape views seen from Wonpungjeong Pavilion at the village’s edge. These artistic gems are accompanied by poetic verses penned by the villagers, showcasing their deep appreciation for the natural wonders that surround us.
Wolindang holds a rich history and a deep sense of connection to the land. Our owner returned to his hometown in 2005 and constructed this traditional Korean house in a bountiful vegetable garden inherited from his great-grandfather. Immerse yourself in the timeless charm of our hanok, complete with the traditional “numaru” and “toenmaru” – perfect spaces to enjoy the gentle breeze and gaze at the clear skies above. Indulge in a meal or sip tea in the serene ambiance of the “numaru” adjoining the “Plain Room.” The flat stone floors ensure warmth during chilly nights, a reminiscent feature of traditional Korean homes. You can even utilize the kitchen furnace for a BBQ experience or to cook delicious sweet potatoes.
At Wolindang, we offer a range of nature-themed programs to enhance your stay. Join our “Tea Drinking Experience” where you’ll learn the art of making and savoring green tea and yellow tea in the traditional Korean way. Experience the vibrant hues of natural dyes with our “Natural Dyeing Experience,” where you can create your own handkerchief or T-shirt using materials like persimmon, safflower, and tree. For those seeking culinary adventures, our cooking classes teach you to craft knife-cut noodles with adzuki beans and Korean wheat dough.
The large grass yard and volleyball court beckon for outdoor activities, making Wolindang an ideal choice for families with children or elderly parents looking for a memorable vacation.
We invite you to experience the charm and serenity of Wolindang, where tradition meets nature in perfect harmony. Let us be your home away from home as you embark on an extraordinary journey through the stunning landscapes and warm hospitality of Yeongam-gun, Korea.
