Gaesil Village, also known as the village of the Seonsan Kim clan, holds a rich historical significance. It was founded by the descendants of Kim Jong-jik, a renowned Korean Neo-Confucian scholar from the early Joseon period. The village proudly houses the head house of Kim Jong-jik and the old village school, which are remarkable cultural heritage sites.
But Gaesil Village is not just known for its history. It also boasts breathtaking natural beauty. Surrounded by the flower-covered Mt. Hwagaesan, a 350-year-old bamboo forest, and Jeopmubong Peak, the village is like a picturesque painting. Over 80% of the houses in the village are traditional hanok buildings, blending harmoniously with the tranquil environment.
In recent years, the villagers have taken immense pride in revitalizing their community. Through renovation and landscaping efforts, Gaesil Village has transformed into a beautiful and welcoming destination. The village has also been recognized for its achievements and was awarded the presidential citation at the Korea Rural Village Awards in 2011.
As a designated NongHyup’s Farm Stay Village, Gaesil offers an array of hands-on experience programs. From collecting sweet potatoes and rice planting to traditional etiquette and tea ceremonies, you can immerse yourself in the local culture and traditions. Don’t miss out on making kites, trying your hand at straw handicrafts, or indulging in traditional food experiences like yeot and yugwa. For those seeking adventure, you can even go loach fishing or enjoy ice sledding.
Gaesil Village truly blooms in every season, attracting around 50-60,000 visitors each year. Come and experience the charm of our village, stay in our delightful hanok, and create lasting memories in the House of Soccer kkumnamu. We look forward to welcoming you!
