Originally owned by Seongam Gang Seungwon, the third son of Uijae Gang Pil, a prominent figure in the fight for Korean independence, this hanok played a significant role during the Korean War. It was here that Mr. Uijae Gang Pil delivered crucial funds to the Provisional Government of Korea in Shanghai, supporting the 3rd division of the army.
Today, Seongamjae is lovingly maintained by the grandson of Mr. Seongam Gang Seungwon and his wife. They have graciously opened its doors to the public, allowing visitors to not only appreciate the historical significance of the hanok but also partake in the preservation of Korean heritage. The owners have effortlessly blended modern amenities with traditional architecture, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay for guests of all ages, both Korean and foreign alike.
Adjacent to Seongamjae lies Bonghwa Mansan Gotaek, a National Folk Cultural Asset and the ancestral home of the hanok’s owner. As a guest of Seongamjae, you’ll have the opportunity to explore this fascinating cultural site, further enriching your understanding of Korea’s past.
While cooking facilities are limited within the hanok, fret not, as there are plenty of restaurants nearby to satisfy your culinary cravings. For a truly authentic experience, we highly recommend booking our traditional Korean-style Yeonbab breakfast in advance.
