Welcome to Sangbiwon, a charming traditional hanok pension nestled 400 meters above sea level on Gayasan Mountain in Goryeong, North Gyeongsang Province. As a tourist, you’ll be captivated by the pension’s picturesque front garden adorned with clay pots and wildflowers, as well as the sight of dried persimmons hanging on the porch during the fall season. The ambiance exudes a comforting and idyllic atmosphere that will make you feel right at home.
One of the highlights of Sangbiwon is its close proximity to the Sangbiri Valley, where pristine clear water flows. A footpath along the reservoir allows you to immerse yourself in the breathtaking nature of Gayasan Mountain. Whether you visit during spring, summer, autumn, or winter, opening your window will reveal the ever-changing beauty of the mountain, while the pavilion in the garden invites you to indulge in a leisurely appreciation of nature.
Adding to the allure of Sangbiwon is the fact that all the water used in the pension is drawn from a natural mineral spring located 150 meters below the land. This ensures that the water you consume has a crisp and refreshing taste, enhancing your overall experience.
The pension boasts seven rooms, each uniquely designed to exude a characteristic hanok charm. From the Dongbaek, Maehwa, Mongnyeon, Moran, and Hwangtobang rooms, you’ll be greeted by red clay walls and Cheongsong hanji (Korean traditional paper) interiors. The wooden wardrobes and cozy cotton quilts will evoke a sense of warmth and nostalgia, reminiscent of a grandmother’s loving home. In addition, two of the rooms are equipped with traditional gudeul floor heating, providing much-needed warmth during the chilly winter months. All rooms offer Wi-Fi access, modern bathrooms, electric kettles, pressure rice cookers, and basic cooking utensils. Please note that only the Hwangtobang room allows cooking within the room, while guests in other rooms can utilize the communal kitchen and barbecue areas. For larger groups, an annex is available, serving as a seminar room and training site.
Apart from its charming accommodations, Sangbiwon takes pride in its traditional sauces, which have been handcrafted for four generations. You have the opportunity to reserve an elegant Korean breakfast, served in beautiful brass tableware, showcasing the flavors of Saengbiwon’s homemade soybean sauce. In addition, Sangbiwon offers various programs including sauce-making, Korean malt candy-making, tofu-making, Korean sweets-making, and tea ceremonies. These activities allow you to immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Korea while creating lasting memories.
At Sangbiwon, we strive to provide a memorable and authentic experience for our guests. Whether you are seeking tranquility amidst nature or a taste of traditional Korean cuisine, our pension offers the perfect blend of comfort, charm, and cultural immersion. We look forward to welcoming you to Sangbiwon and helping you create unforgettable memories during your stay.
