Located near some of Seoul’s most fascinating tourist destinations, Moonguesthouse is just a stone’s throw away from Unhyeongung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, Changdeokgung Palace, and Changgyeonggung Palace. Immerse yourself in the rich history and vibrant atmosphere of these iconic landmarks, all within minutes from your doorstep.
The name “moon” holds deep significance at Moonguesthouse. As you step through the gate, you’ll be greeted by a traditional hanok building nestled within a picturesque courtyard. Adorned with 176 doors and windows, this charming guesthouse truly captures the essence of Korean architecture. The courtyard showcases a ‘ㄷ’-shaped hanok building with a beautifully crafted wooden bedstead and table. On the opposite side, you’ll find a tiled wall adorned with intricate Korean patterns, depicting symbols such as deer, pine, and turtle. The flowerbeds lining the wall burst with vibrant blooms, creating a serene and tranquil ambiance.
Renovated and opened as a guesthouse in September 2011, Moonguesthouse combines traditional elements with modern comforts. The rooms feature exquisite red clay and hanji (traditional Korean paper) decor, providing a cozy and authentic atmosphere. The under-the-floor heating system, known as ondol, ensures that you stay warm during chilly winters and cool during hot summers. Each room is equipped with an air-conditioner, allowing you to adjust the temperature to your liking. The ceiling boasts a 40cm-thick layer of red clay, providing excellent insulation throughout the year.
With seven individual guestrooms and five modern bathrooms, Moonguesthouse caters to the needs of all travelers. Whether you’re traveling alone or with a group, there is a perfect room for you. Additionally, the entire building can be rented for special events and workshops. The unhyeondang of the bonchae, a room with a flower-patterned windscreen, landscape painting, and calligraphy, has even been featured in popular TV programs.
But Moonguesthouse is more than just a place to rest your head. It offers a range of immersive experience programs from 11am to 3pm. Indulge in the art of tea ceremony, dress up in beautiful Hanbok (traditional Korean clothes), learn the secrets of making kimchi and gochujang (red chili paste), try your hand at playing a traditional musical instrument, create a rubbing of a stone inscription, practice calligraphy, or draw orchids on a fan. The owner, a former classical Chinese teacher, personally leads the calligraphy and drawing orchid programs.
At Moonguesthouse, you’ll not only find a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing place to stay, but also an opportunity to delve deep into Korean culture. Immerse yourself in the rich history, partake in traditional activities, and create memories that will last a lifetime. We look forward to welcoming you to Moonguesthouse, where tradition meets modernity in perfect harmony.
