Located just past the gate of the university, the Jeongsimhwa International Cultural Center is a grand building that will capture your attention right away. This center is named after Ms. Lee Bok-Soon, also known by her Buddhist name, Jeongsimhwa. In 1990, Ms. Lee selflessly donated her entire life savings, a remarkable five billion won, to the university. It’s incredible to think that she earned this money over many years by selling gimbap, a popular Korean delicacy that you can now find for just a few thousand won per roll.
The construction of the cultural center was a true labor of love, built in honor of the late Ms. Lee. Despite facing various challenges along the way, the center was finally completed in 2000 thanks to the collective effort of many dedicated individuals. The highlight of the center is the Jeongsimhwa Hall, a magnificent venue with a seating capacity of 1,817. This hall hosts a wide array of concerts, performances, and other large-scale events throughout the year. Additionally, there are two smaller halls, Baekma Hall (450 seats) and Daedeok Hall (200 seats), which are primarily used for seminars and gatherings.
To ensure visitors have a hassle-free experience, the Jeongsimhwa International Cultural Center provides a convenient parking area with space for up to 268 cars. So feel free to bring your own vehicle or rent one to explore the surrounding areas.
If you’re arriving from Daejeon or Seodaejeon Station, the most convenient route is to take the subway and get off at Exit 7 of Yuseongoncheon Station (Chunnam Univ. and Mokwon Univ.). From there, it’s just a short 5 to 10-minute taxi ride to reach the center.
