Welcome to Gwonjinsadaek House, a hidden gem nestled in the charming village of Chunyang-myeon, Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. As you step into this traditional hanok house, you’ll be transported back in time to the Joseon dynasty, immersing yourself in the rich history and culture of Korea.
Also known as Seongam Historic House, Gwonjinsadaek House was named after Seongam Gwon Cheolyeon, a respected scholar of the Joseon dynasty who built the house. With its 130-year-old structure, this hanok house is a testament to the architectural brilliance of that era. Made from Korean red pine, the grand scale of the house is truly awe-inspiring, featuring three distinct indoor spaces: the main residence, the annex, and the gatehouse.
As you pass through the tall gate, your eyes will be drawn to the spacious sarangchae, a traditional study hall that sets the tranquil tone for your stay. To the left of the study hall, you’ll find a small room that was originally built for students but is now known as saesarangbang, a cozy study room.
Gwonjinsadaek House offers four guest rooms, each providing a comfortable and authentic experience. Two of the rooms can accommodate up to five guests, while the medium-sized room can house four guests, and the small room is perfect for two. All rooms, except the largest one, feature ondol floors, keeping you warm and cozy during your stay. Please note that, in keeping with the traditional style, there are no showers or bathrooms inside the rooms, except for the newly renovated room, which includes a private bathroom. Cooking is not permitted in the guest rooms, but fear not, as we offer a delicious breakfast service for an additional charge. Please make sure to reserve your breakfast in advance to ensure a delightful start to your day.
Beyond the walls of Gwonjinsadaek House, a world of exploration awaits. Just a stone’s throw away, you’ll find numerous historic sites, old hanok houses, and even a vibrant fifth-day market. For those with a thirst for natural beauty, the East and West Three-story Stone Pagodas in Seodong-ri, Bonghwa, the Samijeong Falls, Gakhwasan Mountain, and Guma Valley are all within easy reach. Don’t miss the Chunyangjang Market, held on the 4th and 9th of every month, where you can indulge in local delicacies and soak up the lively atmosphere.
At Gwonjinsadaek House, we strive to provide an unforgettable experience that combines the charm of a bygone era with the comfort and convenience that modern travelers seek.
