Welcome to Deokdongdaek House, a hidden gem nestled in the charming village of Gaesil in Korea. This traditional hanok building, certified by Korea Quality, offers an elegant and serene atmosphere that will transport you back in time.

Our hanok is designed in a unique ‘一’ shape and consists of two rooms, each with its own character and charm. The Maesil Room can accommodate 2 to 3 people, while the Juksil Room is perfect for larger groups of 3 to 5 people. Both rooms are adorned with beautiful hanji wallpaper, handmade from the mulberry tree, giving them a refined and authentic touch.

You’ll find all the modern amenities you need for a comfortable stay, including a TV, fridge, air-conditioner, and Internet access. We also provide toiletries to ensure your convenience and comfort during your visit. The Juksil Room is equipped with cooking facilities, allowing you to unleash your inner chef and even have a delightful BBQ party in our spacious courtyard.

Gaesil Village is steeped in history and culture, making it a fascinating place to explore. The village is known as the birthplace of the Seonsan Kim clan and was founded by the descendants of Kim Jong-jik, a renowned Korean Neo-Confucian scholar. As you wander through the village, you’ll encounter the head house of Kim Jong-jik and the old village school, both of which hold significant cultural heritage value.

Nature lovers will be enchanted by the beauty that surrounds Gaesil Village. With the magnificent Mt. Hwagaesan, a 350-year-old bamboo forest, and the picturesque Jeopmubong Peak resembling a fluttering butterfly, this village truly lives up to its name, Gaehwasil, meaning “a beautiful valley with blooming flowers.” Over 80% of the village houses are traditional hanok buildings, adding to the cozy and peaceful ambiance.

Gaesil Village has undergone extensive renovations and developments to create a beautiful and welcoming community. The hanok were meticulously restored or rebuilt, and the village now features earthen-stone walls, scenic walking paths, and exquisite landscaping. Additional facilities such as a village shelter, experience center, and Internet café were also built to enhance the convenience of residents and visitors alike. These efforts were recognized when Gaesil Village received the prestigious presidential citation at the Korea Rural Village Awards in 2011.

As a designated NongHyup’s Farm Stay Village, Gaesil offers a wide array of hands-on experience programs that allow you to immerse yourself in nature, agriculture, and local traditions. From collecting sweet potatoes and participating in rice planting to learning Korean traditional etiquette and tea ceremonies, there’s something for everyone. You can also try your hand at making kites and straw handicrafts, indulge in traditional food experiences, play traditional games, or enjoy activities like loach fishing and ice sledding. Gaesil Village truly blossoms in every season, attracting around 50-60,000 visitors annually.

So come and experience the tranquility and beauty of Deokdongdaek House in Gaesil Village. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful retreat, a glimpse into Korea’s rich heritage, or an opportunity to connect with nature, our hanok is the perfect destination for your next adventure. We look forward to welcoming you to our little piece of paradise.
