Welcome to Daeseung Hanji Village & Hanok Traditional Culture Experience Center! Nestled in the beautiful Wanju County, Jeollabuk-do Province, this charming village has a rich history dating back to the Baekje Dynasty. It was here that the world-famous ‘Goryeo Paper’ was born, making the village a hub for hanji production.
While the villagers have diversified their occupations, the hanji masters of Daeseung Hanji Village continue to preserve and promote the hanji tradition. Through the Hanji Exhibition Hall and Experience Center, they offer a glimpse into the intricate art of hanji making.
The village itself is a picturesque retreat, surrounded by low hills and featuring traditional farmhouses, cattle sheds, and old hanok houses. You’ll also find the remnants of a village school and a pavilion, as well as traditional games like swings and stick throwing.
At the Hanji Experience Center, visitors of all ages can take part in fascinating hands-on programs. From creating hanji fans and shoes to crafting hand mirrors and masks, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of hanji. These programs are not only engaging but also reasonably priced, making them perfect for everyone, including kindergarten children.
For those seeking an authentic hanok experience, our hanok accommodation offers eight guestrooms. Each room is thoughtfully designed with large windows, modern amenities such as a 40-inch TV and air-conditioner, and a touch of traditional elegance with wooden and hanji materials. The rooms also feature a well-equipped bathroom, a dressing table, and a refrigerator.
The Hanok Traditional Culture Experience Center also boasts a seminar room, perfect for group seminars or workshops. And when it’s time to dine, our separate restaurant serves delicious Korean-style meals. Alternatively, guests are welcome to use the kitchen facilities for their own culinary adventures.
One of the highlights of staying at our hanok is being surrounded by a tranquil pine grove. Take a deep breath and savor the clean air scented with pine, enhancing the sense of relaxation and rejuvenation during your stay.
Whether you’re interested in the art of hanji making, immersing yourself in traditional Korean culture, or simply seeking a peaceful getaway, Daeseung Hanji Village & Hanok Traditional Culture Experience Center is the perfect destination for you. We can’t wait to welcome you and share this unique and enriching experience with you.
