Established in 1988, the museum is operated by the Mint Corporation of Korea, offering its services to the public for free. Our main goal is to increase public knowledge and understanding of the nation’s currency. With over 120,000 pieces on display, including coins in current circulation both in Korea and overseas, coins from modern times, commemorative coins, special money, postage stamps, and other materials, there is a vast array of artifacts for you to explore.

Let’s start your journey in Exhibition Room 1, where you will be greeted by a remarkable collection of ancient and modern coins. Prepare to be amazed as you encounter coins dating back to the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties. Among the highlights are the Geonwonjungbo, the very first coin ever minted in Korea in the year 996, and the Sangpyeongtongbo, which was widely used during the Joseon Dynasty. You will also have the chance to marvel at commemorative coins from past Olympics, special coins, charms, amulets, and even Lydian currency, the world’s first-ever alloy coin minted around 670 BC.

Moving on to Exhibition Room 2, you will delve into the world of bills. Here, you will discover a vast variety of bills from different eras, accompanied by detailed information about the production process of banknotes, from the manufacturing of the paper to the finished product. Exhibition Room 3 will enlighten you on how authorities spot counterfeit money, providing you with valuable insights into the techniques used to ensure the integrity of our currency.
