Welcome to the Changwon City Museum – Moonshin Art Museum, a hidden gem nestled at the hillside of Chusan-dong. As a tourist, you are in for a treat as you explore the world of Moon Shin, a renowned artist whose spirit lives on in his incredible art pieces.
Moon Shin’s story is one of passion and dedication. After residing in France for many years, he returned to his hometown in 1980 with a dream of establishing a museum. For 15 long years, Moon Shin tirelessly worked towards this goal, and in 1994, his dream became a reality. However, fate had a bittersweet twist as Moon Shin passed away just one year after the museum’s opening. In his will, he selflessly donated the museum to his beloved hometown of Changwon.
Since 2003, the Moonshin Art Museum has been operating as a city gallery, preserving and showcasing Moon Shin’s incredible art collection. In October 2010, Changwon further expanded its dedication to Moon Shin’s work by establishing the Moonshin Round Museum. Here, you can explore 116 plaster circle art pieces created by the artist himself.
The museum itself is a haven for art enthusiasts and curious travelers alike. With Exhibition Hall 1 & 2, an outdoor exhibition hall, and the Moonshin Round Museum, you will be treated to a total of 3,900 art pieces. From plaster round pieces to sculptures, drawings, tools, paintings, oil-paintings, and keepsakes, there is something to captivate every visitor.
