Reverend Son Yangwon dedicated his life to his religious activities and relief efforts at a group home for patients suffering from Hansen’s Disease, which is located within Aeyangwon Church. However, his unwavering commitment led him to be detained at Yeosu Police Office in 1940, as he courageously refused to honor Japanese Shinto shrines.
The construction of the Memorial Hall was completed on March 27, 1994, serving as a lasting tribute to Son Yangwon’s remarkable legacy. It stands as a symbol of his sacrifice and resilience, as he was tragically shot and killed by the North Korean army during the Korean War.

If you’re coming from Central City Terminal, simply hop on an Intercity Bus bound for Yeosu Bus Terminal. From there, take Bus No. 35 and alight at Sinheung Bus Stop. Once you disembark, just continue straight and take a left at the first left road. You’ll find the church standing proudly on the right.
