Hallasan National Park Gwaneumsa Campground

The Gwaneumsa Campground in Hallasan National Park, nestled in the embrace of the pine-laden Hallasan mountain, is a perfect spot for camping enthusiasts. Conveniently located in Ara-dong to the north of Jeju City, this campground provides a unique opportunity for city dwellers to enjoy a cozy camping experience within the comforting arms of Hallasan Mountain.

Reaching the campground is quite straightforward. After passing through Jeju National University, make a right turn towards the 1100 road. After crossing the 2nd Mystical Road, you will arrive at the entrance of Gwaneumsa. A little further, you will find the Gwaneumsa Campground.

Located at an altitude of 620m, the campground offers a fantastic opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Hallasan. The campground is surrounded by a mixed forest of evergreen broadleaf trees like Quercus glauca and Quercus serrata, along with coniferous trees such as Japanese red pine, forming a lush green canopy that’s perfect for observing the local ecology.

The Gwaneumsa Campground comprises around 30 naturally arranged sites, not uniform sections. Campfires and charcoal fires are prohibited, and only portable burners are allowed for cooking. The campground is not only popular among mountaineers climbing Hallasan but also among Jeju City residents, given its proximity to the city centre – it’s just a 20-minute drive away.

The 8.7-kilometer trail from the Gwaneumsa Campground to Baekrokdam Crater Lake offers an impressive view of the deep valleys and majestic landscapes of Hallasan mountain, revealing its true beauty.
