Legends of Jindo Island

In her solitude, Old Woman Bbyong prayed to Yongwang, the god of the ocean, every day, yearning to be reunited with her family. Her prayers were answered when Yongwang appeared in her dream and instructed her to follow a rainbow road across the sea. The next day, as Old Woman Bbyong went to the sea and prayed again, the seawater parted, and the rainbow road appeared.
This incredible journey allowed her family and the other villagers to return to the island, igniting a tradition that is celebrated to this day. During the Yeongdeung Festival, visitors can witness original folk plays that depict the legend of Old Woman Bbyong and immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Jindo Island.
