History and Restoration

The original government complex of Jeju-mok was tragically destroyed by fire in 1434. However, it was quickly rebuilt and underwent continuous renovations during the Joseon period. Unfortunately, much of the site was destroyed during the Japanese colonial period, leaving only the Gwandeokjeong Pavilion standing.

Thanks to extensive excavation projects conducted between 1991 and 1998, the current Jeju-mok Government Office was restored to its former glory in December 2002. These excavations helped uncover the structures and locations of the buildings, based on expert opinions and historical documents.
