Legend has it that Goryeosan Mountain, previously known as Oryeonsan, holds a special place in Buddhist history. In the year 416, during the reign of King Jangsu of Goguryeo, a wise monk named Cheonchukguk ascended the mountain and stumbled upon Oryeonji Pond. To his amazement, he found it adorned with vibrant lotus flowers in five different colors. The monk plucked petals from these lotus blooms and gently blew them into the air. Wherever a petal landed, a temple was built, each named after its corresponding color: Jeokseoksa Temple (red lotus), Baengnyeonsa Temple (white lotus), Cheongryeonsa Temple (blue lotus), Hwangryeonsa Temple (yellow lotus), and Heungnyeonsa Temple (black lotus).

Immerse yourself in the rich history and spirituality that radiates from these temples, as you marvel at the architectural beauty and serene surroundings. Each temple offers a unique experience, and you’ll find yourself captivated by the harmonious blend of vibrant colors and tranquil landscapes.
