A Tale of Love and Tragedy

Legend has it that Aranggak Pavilion was constructed to appease the spirit of a young woman named Arang, who met an unfortunate and untimely death. The tale unfolds with a heartbreaking twist of fate, as Arang was mistakenly killed by a low-ranking officer who was deeply in love with her. As a result of her tragic demise, Arang became a ghost and sought justice by appearing before every district magistrate.

Each district magistrate, however, succumbed to a fatal heart attack upon hearing Arang’s plea for investigation. It wasn’t until a new district magistrate named Lee arrived in the area that the tide began to turn. Unlike his predecessors, Lee was willing to listen to the ghostly apparition and delve into the truth of her unjust death.

With determination and compassion, District Magistrate Lee unraveled the mystery surrounding Arang’s killing and brought the low-ranked officer to justice. In honor of Arang’s memory, a religious ceremony was held, and Aranggak Pavilion was erected as a symbol of remembrance and repentance.
