Nam-gu is known for its rich cultural heritage, with more cultural resources than natural resources. Some of the notable tourist attractions in Nam-gu include:

  1. Pochungsa Temple: This temple holds historical significance as it recruited 7,000 independence fighters during the Japanese invasion of Korea in the late 16th century. It is a shrine dedicated to the memory of the heroic figures who fought and sacrificed their lives in the Battle of Geumsan. Pochungsa Temple is one of the two major academies (Seowon) in the Jeollanam-do province that survived the closure during the late Joseon Dynasty.
  2. Gwangju Hyanggyo Confucian School: Located between Gwangju Park and Sadoong, the Hyanggyo Confucian School was originally situated below Jangwon Hill but was relocated due to safety concerns. The narrow and deteriorating conditions led to its final relocation to its current site in 1488. The Gwangju Hyanggyo Confucian School features various buildings such as Daeseongjeon (the main hall), Myeongnyundang (the lecture hall), Dong and Seojae (east and west study halls), Nae Sammun (inner three gates), Wae Sammun (outer three gates), Munhoejae (a place for literary meetings), and Yangsajae (a place for educating scholars).
