Reaching the Castle
To access Gwongeumseong Fortress, venture to the left side of Sogongwon, passing the Biryonggyo Bridge over the ravine. While there is a steep and rocky path that leads to the castle, we recommend taking the convenient cable car. Installed in 1971 by Dr. Gi-Sup Lee, the cable car offers not only a comfortable journey but also breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Operating from 07:00 to 18:00 or 18:30, the cable car departs every 7 minutes, ensuring you can make the most of your visit. Remember to purchase round-trip tickets at the ticket counter for the day of your visit.
Getting There by Bus
If you’re traveling from Seoul, the bustling capital of South Korea, you can easily reach Gwongeumseong Fortress by bus. Begin your journey at either Seoul Express Bus Terminal or Dong Seoul Bus Terminal and take a bus bound for Sokcho Bus Terminal. Upon arriving at Sokcho Bus Terminal, board Bus No. 7, which will take you directly to Sogongwon Bus Stop. From there, a world of history and natural beauty awaits you on your way to the fortress.
