Getting There and Location
Daegu Jeil Church is conveniently located in the heart of Daegu, making it easily accessible for tourists. To reach the church by subway, you can take Line 1 or Line 2 and get off at Banwoldang Station. From there, take Exit 18 and walk straight for about 170 meters. When you reach Yangnyeong-gil Road, turn right and continue walking for another 200 meters. You will then see a sign for Yangnyeongsi, where you should turn right. Just 10 meters ahead on the left, you will find the historic Daegu Jeil Church.
A Brief History
Daegu Jeil Church holds the esteemed title of being the oldest Protestant church in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. It was first established in 1898, initially consisting of just four tile-roofed houses. However, in 1933, the church underwent a significant reconstruction project, blending traditional and Western architectural designs. This resulted in the creation of a stunning and unique church building that still stands today. In 1937, Deacon Lee Ju-Yeol added a magnificent 33-meter bell tower to the church, further enhancing its grandeur.
