The church, originally known as “Gondanggol Church,” has undergone various relocations and name changes throughout its history. From “Gondanggol” to “Jungang” and finally to “Seungdong,” each transition brought with it a new chapter in the church’s story. Today, Seungdong Church resides in the vibrant neighborhood of Insadong, attracting visitors from far and wide.
After Samuel Foreman Moore’s passing in 1906, Charles Allen Clark took over as the pastor, and the church became a place of gathering for influential figures like Mongyang Yuh Woon-hyung, who played a vital role in the political history of Joseon. Seungdong Church also played a significant part in the March 1st Independence Movement in 1919, as a group of young church members organized a large student demonstration. In 1939, the church further solidified its impact by establishing the Joseon Theological Seminary.

Getting to Seungdong Church
- Subway: Jonggak Station (Seoul Subway Line 1), Exit 3.
- Upon exiting, head straight for approximately 300 meters.
- At the 4-way Intersection, turn left.
- Continue for another 100 meters and take the left road towards Insadong-gil Road.
- Proceed for 70 meters, then turn left and follow the small alleyway leading to the church.
