Welcome to Gyodong Gaon, a charming traditional Korean guesthouse located in the heart of Jeonju Hanok Village. As you stroll along the main street, you can’t miss the two-story house standing out among the rest, with its vibrant colors and inviting atmosphere. The name “Gaon” means “middle” in Korean, perfectly fitting for its central location.

As you enter through the gate, you’ll be greeted by a picturesque yard adorned with colorful flower trees, jars of sauces, and a traditional furnace. Don’t forget to snap a photo in front of the popular mural on one of the walls, it’s the perfect Instagram-worthy spot.

One of the highlights of Gyodong Gaon is the “numaru”, or loft, which offers a stunning view of Hanok Village. Whether you visit during the winter or summer, the numaru is a must-visit spot. With its open space and wooden floor, it provides a cool sanctuary during the hot summer months. In winter, you can admire the snow-covered trees and roofs of the Hanok Village while sipping on a hot cup of tea. It truly is a magical setting.

The owner of Gyodong Gaon has been living here for 37 years and transformed his house into a hanok guesthouse in 2014. With a focus on comfort and insulation, he rebuilt the house to offer five unique and inviting rooms. Each room has its own character, ensuring a different experience for every guest.

The first-floor “Meomulda Room” is the only room with a separate living room and bedroom. Opening the door reveals a stunning view of the yard, Hanok Village, and Omokdae. On the second floor, you’ll find the spacious “Nanuda Room”, perfect for families or larger groups. The “Damda Room” and “Kkumkkuda Room” feature cozy attic spaces, where some guests even choose to sleep for a unique experience. The attic walls are finished with cypress wood, emanating a pleasant scent. Lastly, the “Geurida Room” offers the best views through its windows, allowing warm sunlight and cool breezes to fill the space.

To further enhance your experience, Gyodong Gaon offers a variety of cultural programs. You can immerse yourself in traditional Korean games like “gulleongsoe”, “tuho”, and “Korean top”. If you’re feeling adventurous, try your hand at “sabang chigi”, “sampalseon”, or “ttangttameokgi”. These games are loved by both Korean adults and are sure to captivate children and foreigners alike. The best part? All these traditional Korean games are free to play.
