During my travels in Korea, I discovered a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Chungju, a city in the North Chungcheong Province. This unique restaurant, known as Palbong Bean Field (팔봉콩밭), offers a genuine taste of Korea’s rural farming culture. Run by farmers and located near the famous Sujupalbong Peak, this spot is a breath of fresh air in the bustling city.
Authentic Farm-to-table Dining Experience
What sets Palbong Bean Field apart is their dedication to sustainability and authenticity. The restaurant was born out of the farmers’ struggle to find a market for their beans. Ms. Jo Seong-sook, the restaurant’s representative, came up with the idea to use their homegrown beans to offer a tofu-making experience. This innovative approach paved the way for the birth of Palbong Bean Field.

Ms. Jo Seong-sook’s dream was to utilize local specialty products from cultivation to dining. This dream was realized through Palbong Bean Field. During a cool, autumn day, there’s nothing better than their hot tofu hot pot, which is the perfect embodiment of their slogan.
